Cursor Subscription Guide: New Prices, Claude Fees and Legacy Pro

Looking for the $20/month Cursor Pro plan? First check whether you already have a legacy subscription. New customers choose The X Subscription: Plus starts at $8/month, while using third-party models such as Claude and GPT in Cursor requires Premium or above, with model usage billed separately. Existing Pro, Pro+, and Ultra subscribers can currently keep their plans. Switching is optional and permanent.

Cursor's advertised monthly fee and your final bill can be quite different. If you mainly code with Claude, compare the subscription and model costs together before buying or migrating.

Prices and policies checked on October 19, 2026. All amounts below are official US dollar list prices before applicable taxes. Confirm your account's checkout terms before purchasing.

Cursor subscription guide: plan fees, model usage and legacy Pro

Why did Cursor Pro move to a unified subscription?

Cursor's August 14, 2026 announcement confirmed that SpaceX had completed its acquisition, following a process that began in April. The announcement focused on computing resources and model training: using larger GPU infrastructure to build stronger models at lower running costs.

On October 12, x.ai introduced The X Subscription, bringing Cursor, Grok, Grok Bot, and X Premium into one subscription system, with benefits varying by tier. New customers use these plans; existing subscribers can retain their previous subscriptions.

SpaceX is the acquisition counterparty. The product brands and billing destinations are separate details, which explains why a search for Cursor pricing now leads to x.ai.

Cursor subscription prices compared

This table compares monthly billing in US dollars for individual plans. Usage multiples are relative to Plus, not a guaranteed number of requests or coding tasks.

PlanMonthly priceIncluded usage versus PlusThird-party models in Cursor
Free$0/monthLimited trial usageNo paid-tier third-party access
Plus$8/monthBaseNot supported
Premium$30/month4×Available, billed separately
Super$100/month15×Available, billed separately
Ultra$200/month50×Available, billed separately

See the official pricing page and pricing documentation. Annual options also exist; compare the full annual commitment rather than treating an annual equivalent as a monthly payment.

Plus lowers the entry cost for light usage but cannot replace a legacy Pro workflow that depends on Claude or GPT. Premium is the minimum new tier for third-party access. Super and Ultra increase included usage; upgrading does not make third-party model usage part of the monthly fee.

Teams have an additional model charge

Teams offer Premium, Super, and Ultra at $30, $100, and $200 per seat per month, respectively. There is no Teams Plus tier. A team can mix seat tiers and manage billing, members, and usage centrally.

The Cursor Token Rate adds $0.25 per million tokens to third-party model requests on Teams, on top of model API pricing. Individuals do not pay this charge, and first-party models including Grok and Composer are exempt. Seat fees alone are therefore not a complete team budget.

Shared weekly usage is different from prepaid credit

New plans share included model usage across Cursor and Grok, refreshing weekly. Coding in Cursor and using Grok for chat or content creation draw on the shared allowance rather than two independent subscriptions.

One Agent task can trigger many rounds of reading files, editing code, running commands, and troubleshooting. A usage multiplier therefore cannot tell you how many tasks you will finish: the model, context length, and execution path matter.

Third-party models use Additional Usage credits from the first request, even if you still have included weekly usage left. Access to the Grok API is also different from included API usage: the pricing FAQ says API calls are billed separately at standard model rates.

For cross-product benefits, read our Grok unified subscription guide. The key question here is what your Cursor workflow costs.

How much more could Claude or GPT cost?

For an individual, use this budget:

Monthly cost = subscription fee + third-party model usage + other paid usage beyond the allowance + applicable taxes.

The legacy plan documentation describes two monthly pools for Pro, Pro+, and Ultra: Cursor Models and Other Models. The new subscription removes the included Other Models allowance.

For illustration, suppose a legacy Pro subscriber pays $20/month and uses $20 of third-party models at API list prices, all covered by that account's existing allowance. Excluding taxes and other overages:

ItemLegacy Cursor ProNew Premium
Monthly subscription$20$30
Example third-party consumption$20$20
Consumption covered by planAssumed fully coveredNot covered
Additional model bill$0$20
Total$20/month$50/month

That is a $30 increase, or 150%, under this specific assumption. It is not a universal price increase or a promise about every historical Pro account. Check your own billing and usage dashboard because legacy pricing has changed over time.

This is the substance of the third-party pricing dispute: developers may value Cursor as one editor for several model providers, yet the new fixed fee no longer covers those models. Added Grok or X benefits only offset the cost if you actually need them. Users who mainly use included models and several bundled products may reach a different conclusion.

Before running long Agent tasks, check manual top-ups, Auto Top-up, and the monthly additional usage limit. Starting with manual credit and a clear budget makes actual consumption easier to understand.

Can existing users keep Cursor Pro?

Yes, currently. The official switching policy says your current plan continues unless you change or cancel it. A completed switch is permanent and cannot be undone by Support.

Legacy individual prices are $20/month for Pro, $60 for Pro+, and $200 for Ultra. Their comparable new tiers are Premium, Super, and Ultra, but comparable does not mean identical. The included third-party allowance is a central difference. New plans also have no $60 individual tier between $30 Premium and $100 Super.

If you rely heavily on Claude and your existing Other Models allowance is sufficient, keeping your old plan may better fit your workflow. If you already pay for several products, compare their combined bill with the migration offer instead.

Eligible old subscriptions and unused-time refunds are handled in the switching flow, subject to the payment channel and account terms. Do not treat migration as a reversible trial. Current permission to keep a legacy plan is not a guarantee that policies will never change.

Which plan should you choose?

New users can start with Free to test the editor and Agent workflow. Plus suits light work with included models; if you need Claude or GPT, budget for Premium plus model consumption. Consider higher tiers when real usage shows that the included allowance is insufficient.

Existing users should compare recent bills, frequently used models, third-party consumption, other overages, and the Grok or X features they need. The useful comparison is the total cost of doing the same development work after switching.

Frequently asked questions

Is the $20 Cursor Pro plan still available?

Existing subscribers can currently retain it as a legacy plan. New customers use The X Subscription rather than the old Pro purchase route.

Can I use Claude on the $8 Plus plan?

No. Third-party access starts at Premium, with usage billed separately.

Does Cursor Ultra include Claude and GPT usage?

The new Ultra subscription does not. Legacy Cursor Ultra retains its Other Models rules. The same name and price do not mean the same allowance.

Can I return to legacy Pro after migrating?

No. The completed switch is permanent, including for Support. Compare usage and total costs first.
